Attempted Diesel Theft

Overnight on 18/19th November, offender/s damaged a wagon at farm premises on Chapel Road, Whaley Bridge, whilst attempting to remove diesel.

Please be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to Derbyshire police.

Help prevent a chain e-mail being circulated

At this time of year, members of the public are re-circulating an e-mail with content similar to below:

“A card is posted through your door from a company called PDS (Parcel Delivery Service) suggesting that they were unable to deliver a parcel and that you need to contact them on 0906 6611911 (a Premium rate number).

DO NOT call this number, as this is a mail scam originating from Belize.

Suspicious people

At 10am this morning, Wednesday 17th November, a female described as being of Eastern European appearance, has been wandering around the supermarket car park in Chapel-en-le-Frith, High Peak, approaching people and asking if they want to buy gold rings. She has also been also looking into parked cars. She is wearing a brown head scarf, dark complexion, dark hair, wearing a grey 3/4 length coat and a checked skirt. Incident number: 163 of 17.11.10.

Police have received several reports of persons in a silver BMW saloon and possibly an Audi Estate flagging motorists down by a male, persistently asking for money and petrol. Excuses made have been that they needed petrol as they had run out and had a baby in the car, or asking for money as his wife is sick, etc, and offering gold rings. Locations where motorists have been flagged down are: B5056, Grangemill stretch, A52 Ashbourne, B5023 Wirksworth stretch. Incident number: 451 of 15.11.10 & Incident numbers: 320, 687 of 16.11.10.

Don’t become a victim of these scams which have done the rounds before!

Ozbox sessions help Whaley Bridge brownies get boxing clever

Youngsters at 1st Whaley Bridge Methodist Brownies had the chance to get boxing clever with the local police.

The girls took part in an Ozbox taster session, a boxing based fitness training programme which is designed to raise youngsters’ fitness levels as well as promote self confidence

The session was set up by PCSO Julie Shaw and Brown Owl Sally Whelan, who also volunteers as a Special Constable for the Whaley Bridge and Furness Vale Safer Neighbourhood policing team.

PCSO Shaw said: “The taster session gave the youngsters a chance to take part in a fun activity, which encourages fitness and provides the opportunity for them to get to know their local police.

“We had some really positive feedback from the group, who said they had really enjoyed the session which goes to show how Ozbox can appeals to and reach a wide variety of youngsters.”

Thieves targeting expensive motor vehicles

Greater Manchester Police have informed Derbyshire of a method of stealing motor vehicles which has started to become a problem to them. Thieves are targeting high powered and expensive motor vehicles whilst they are queuing in traffic during the evening rush hour.

Vehicles are approached on foot and threats made to the drivers before the car is stolen.

This type of offence has not occurred as yet in Derbyshire.

Drivers are advised to keep windows up and doors locked whilst stationary or travelling at slow speeds.
