Whaley Well Dressing: Sat 23rd June onwards

The Whaley Bridge Well Dressing, now in its twelfth year is taking place across the next couple of weekends in the undercover marquee in Whaley Bridge Canal Basin. The rain may come but it’s dry inside ! The well dressing custom is unique to Derbyshire and is the art of decorating springs or wells with pictures made from natural materials. Wells have been dressed in Whaley Bridge since the millennium as a thanksgiving for water.

Despite the Interpub 6 a side cricket being called off because of the rain over the last few days which has affected the ground, the beacon, barbecue, bar, softdrinks and music will all be going ahead tonight just as planned. Todays lovely weather should set the scene for a great evening.

All invited. Please bring a torch and ensure you wear sturdy shoes.

If you wish you can join a group walk from the station carpark at 7.30pm , or you can make your own way there. Please leave the car at home or park in Whaley centre and walk up (Disabled access by car). The beacon will be lit at around 10.15 pm. Hopefully we will be able to see other beacons from the wonderful vantage point up New Horwich Road at the Cricket ground.

Interpub 6 a side cricket at Whaley Cricket Club followed by Diamond Jubilee Beacon – 4th June 12.30pm onwards

One of Whaley Bridges favorite days is the interpub 6 a side cricket match, held at Whaley Bridge cricket ground up New Horwich Road, with superb views over Toddbrook Reservoir and Whaley Bridge. A bar and food will be available all day from 12.30pm. The punch changes colour almost as quickly as the runs rack up on the wicket. It’s a really good  day out, and this year it is being held on the 4th of June to celebrate the  Jubilee. Following it, from 7.30pm onwards are the Jubilee beacon celebrations. There will be a barbecue, music, and the beacon will be lit around 9.30pm. People are asked to leave the car at home and walk to the evening event.

Gigs at the Railway

The Railway Pub in the centre of Whaley bridge announce some upcoming music this weekend.

——-

Keeping live music alive in our pubs!

This Saturday(26th May) we have local band, Lethal Sin, playing their debut gig here at the Railway. Really good rock band. Come along and give them your support on their first public appearance.

Sunday afternoon (27th May)at around 5.30 we have duo Elrieke and Leopold joining us. They are over from The Netherlands to do some recording with ex Magna Carter member, Linda Simpson, and really well worth a listen to.

Thanks from Dominique.
