Dry Stone Walling Classes in Whaley Bridge

Following the success of last years classes, the Friends of Whaley Bridge Memorial Park are arranging two more, 2 day dry stone walling classes in the park this year. As well as learning the basic of building dry stone walls, which will give you the confidence to tackle projects of your own, these courses leave a long lasting legacy in the park, and even if you never do any stone walling again, you will be able to take great delight in pointing out to your children and grandchildren the bit of wall that you helped to build! It’s great fun and extremely rewarding. Two separate weekend courses are planned on 18/19 Feb and 25/26 March with Steve Clifton from the DrystoneWalling Association.

If it’s one of those things you’ve had at the back of your mind to do, or you know someone who would love it, then now is your opportunity ! The cost is £70 for 14 hours of expert tuition, which includes lunch. You learn a skill, have a load of fun and at the same time leave a legacy in the park for your next generation to enjoy.

To Book, email walling@whaleypark.co.uk or phone 07884 973315

Squash Players Wanted !

With 3 squash players from Whaley Bridge already playing at a local Squash Club, based at the Disley Amalgamated Sports Club in Disley, the first and second teams are looking for new players of both sexes and all ages to provide additional depth to the squads.

Whether you are an expert or a relative beginner, the club offers an opportunity to practice, train and improve on various team nights and the opportunity to play in both second and first teams. Squads are mixed sex and mixed ages. Matches are played on a Thursday evening from 7pm, and you can turn up to training nights  on Tuesdays or Sundays as you wish.  DASC have one squash court at the moment, but plans are underway to reinstate another which is currently used for other activities. The court is bookable throughout the week, so games with other players can easily be arranged as you wish.

Squash is a superb game to be involved with and we have a really varied set of people from all backgrounds involved, which makes it a great social experience too.

The teams play in the North West Counties Squash League, with the second team (Disley 2) playing in the Division 5 South area and the first team (Disley 1) playing iin the Division 4 South East area. Individual and team progress can be monitored on the web here . It’s helpful to have transport, but lifts can generally be arranged if required.

If you’d like to get involved, please email Jon Goldfinch on cllr.jong.wbtc@googlemail.com .
