Whaley Bridge Burkina Faso Project – Sponsored Walk Monday 4 May 2015

Burkina Faso is one of the poorest countries on earth. In recent years, communities have been blighted by devastating flooding followed by relentless drought. Many people hand animals have died and thousands are desperately poor.

Whaley Bridge can do something to improve life for many people.

If we raise money, women will be given goats, which will breed, providing meat and kid goats to sell at market. These families will be able to eat better and create some income to send children to school. They will also undertake to give some goats to their neighbours and liberate more families from poverty.

Also, farmers who have watched their crops shrivel away under the blazing sun, can now be shown how to use family waste to retain moisture in the soil, and how to sow vegetable seeds in horse-shoe shaped troughs which conserve water in harsh conditions.

But it is even better than this…

The UK charity Christian Aid has won a bid for match-funding from the European Aid Fund. We have pledged to raise £5,000 and the EU will match-fund by four times!

£25,000 goes a very long way in Africa…
