Whaley Bridge Art Group has launched a new annual competition for Derbyshire landscapes, thanks to founder Irene Osborn.   Carol Ann James, a member of the group since 2004, was the first winner, for a watercolour of Upper Lathkill Dale.

Irene’s two sons, Christopher and Andrew judged the competition, during the group’s annual exhibition, saying how difficult the choice had been.  Irene, who has motor neuron disease, made her speech via an i-pad.  She said she was not sure back in 1996, when she started the group, that it would survive.  She was amazed it has turned out so well. She congratulated winner Carol Ann, who receives a silver plate.
