Motorists are being warned about vehicle safety in the run up to Christmas

One of the main messages is not to leave vehicles unattended with the keys in the ignition when defrosting or unloading.

This advice follows the theft of several vehicles across the county during the last two weeks after the owners had left the keys in the ignition while they fetched screen de-icer or waited for their windscreens to defrost.

One woman had her car and items she had bought from a cash and carry warehouse stolen after leaving it unattended when she returned to her business premises.

Police are also suggesting that motorists should not leave any Christmas presents, bags or sat navs in their cars.
