Whaley Bridge Volunteer Centre: meeting needs

Whaley Bridge Volunteer Centre (WBVC) helps local people get out and around.

Volunteers drive elderly or infirm residents to their healthcare appointments, take them shopping or give them a lift to social events.

Last year the centre arranged over 400 trips, but they only have 19 volunteers altogether and urgently need more drivers.

WBVC opens on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday mornings from 10am to 12 noon. If you’d like to find out more, drop in at the Mechanics Institute, on Market Street, or call 01663 734588 during opening times.

Good morning. My name is Sue Evans and I work for Derbyshire Carer’s Association. I have recently completed an assessment with a carer who lives in Whaley Bridge who was interested in a sitting service – ie someone who would sit with her husband to provide some respite from her caring role. Do you offer such a service please.

I am sorry, Sue, but our services are confined to transporting people. Either shopping or more often medical appointments,
