Local fundraisers in Whaley Bridge are helping a Christian charity run by Robert and Helena Brown, which is making life better for people thousands of miles away in Africa.  Jean Oldbury, left and Kelly Slater each presented £100 to TOMM (The Olive Medical Mission) in Uganda.  Jean is one of the team running the open church scheme at St James’, Taxal – the donation came from money left by weekend visitors to the church.  Kelly, 25, took part in a 10K charity obstacle course run in Warwickshire.  She works in her mother’s fashion shop on Market Street, just doors away from where Robert has just moved his footcare business.
In the autumn, five students from the University of Derby Buxton will be flying out to the mission with Robert and Helena. The students, on a health and social care course, are busy raising money for their fares and accommodation in Uganda.  The will help to “freshen up the place and do some general repairs.”
