Whaley Bridge’s recently-opened Shallcross Incline Greenway is living up to its name. After recent hot weather, it is now in full leaf ready with a green canopy giving shade to the many walkers, cyclists and horse riders who use this safe route to get from New Road to the Shallcross estate. The Greenway has been developed on the site of the old Cromford and High Peak Ralway, which linked the High Peak with the Midlands.
Details of a new Shallcross Trail are now being finalised. Local town councillor Martin Thomas and Mrs Mary Nother are preparing a leaflet, which will be available at the canal basin. Waymarks will point walkers towards the Greenway, via the railway incline near the basin, Old Road, the Cock pub, and the former railway line that runs under the main road and on towards Cromford Court. They are also working on plans that will extend the trail from the summit of the Greenway at the Shallcross estate onwards towards Fernilee and the Goyt Valley.
