Distraction burglaries warning

Residents should be extra vigilant, following a spate of distraction burglaries on adjacent divisions of the Derbyshire police area. None have occurred in the High Peak and Derbyshire Dales as yet, but we are keen to raise awareness in order to prevent any incidents taking place. The offenders have purported to be from the waterboard, stated they’re from the electricity company and need to make checks on electrical equipment and even purported to be local police officers, to gain access to the homes of elderly victims.

Although these incidents have occurred in neighbouring divisions, it is possible that the offenders may move onto our area, as these criminals travel across the county.

Please look out for your elderly/vulnerable neighbours and make them aware.

Police officers and PCSO’s do carry identification that can be checked with the police by calling 0345 123 33 33 or 999.

The identity of persons working for utility companies ! can be checked by calling the utility company using a telephone number taken from the phone book NOT the caller.

Ensure that your homes are secure, use a door chain if you have one. Do not let anyone into your home unless you are sure of their identity. If anyone calls at your home purporting to be from a utility company or the police and you feel suspicious, call Derbyshire Police on 999 if urgent or 0345 123 33 33, for an officer to attend.
