Lamppost Poppies

This year, 2018, is the centenary of the end of the First World War.

To commemorate this centenary and to remember all those of the British Armed Forces who have fought and died in conflict then and since, and all those who have fought and died alongside them,  large poppies will be erected on lampposts throughout the centre of Whaley Bridge and Furness Vale.  The poppies will be put in place on the 31st October, and will remain in place until the 22nd November, centred around Remembrance Sunday on the 11th November.

Whaley4Wards have been able to organize this project through the kind sponsorship of individuals and businesses, each of whom has sponsored poppies for £10 each.

The response has been overwhelming and  every one of the  110 poppies has now  been sponsored. Every penny of the £1100 raised will go to the Royal British Legion to enable them to continue to carry out their work. A receipt for this money will be published here once it is received.

110 poppies should make quite a spectacular display!

Please contact Chair of W4W Jon Goldfinch on goldfinchjon@gmail.com or 01663733067 if you wish to sponsor any remaining poppies. If anyone wishes to help put the poppies up, then we will be meeting in the Bowling Club car park at 4pm on the 31st Oct. We will form teams of 2 and one of you will need a step ladder so please bring one along if you have one.

Thank you so much to the Sponsors who have supported this project so far and are listed below :
