Concern grows for missing man

Police searching for a man who has gone missing from the High Peak are extending their appeal to the North West.

Steven O’Riordan was last seen by his family at 5.30pm on Monday, May 30 in Whaley Bridge.

He has health issues and police are concerned for his welfare. Officers believe he may have travelled
to the North West of the country because he often attends a gym in Manchester and he has friends in the area.

Mr O’Riordan (28) is 5ft 11ins and slim. He has shoulder length, wavy, light brown hair which is sometimes worn in a pony
tail, and he is normally clean shaven. It is not known what he was wearing on the day he went missing but he may be carrying a rucksack.

Derbyshire police are liaising with neighbouring forces as part of the missing person inquiry.
Anyone with information about his whereabouts should call police on 0345 123 33 33.

Chapel and Whaley SNT

On Tuesday 26th May, Chapel and Whaley Safer Neighbourhood Teams attended the Derbyshire Constabulary Annual Achievement Awards Ceremony, as one of the 6 teams nominated for Safer Neighbourhood Team of the year.

They narrowly missed out with a team from Derby winning the trophy.

The Teams would like to thank all those people who nominated them for the Award and hope that with your support they could be nominated again next year and maybe even win.

Opportunistic thief

Shoppers are asked to ensure that their purses and wallets are secure whilst out shopping, following several reports of purse thefts from handbags over the past few days.

These thefts are believed to have taken place at supermarkets in Buxton and Chapel-en-le-Frith.

Please be extra vigilant and ensure that handbags are closed whilst browsing so that the opportunist thief cannot
take your purse.

Thank you.

A good result

A vigilant resident in Whaley Bridge contacted the police this lunchtime, 24th May, reporting a ’51 registered suspicious white transit van driving very slowly round the area. Police stopped the vehicle and checked the driver. He has been reported for not having a Waste Carriers Licence and other motoring offences.

A good result, thank you!

Please continue to be vigilant.

Oil tank crime prevention advice

There are a number of useful devices/alarms available which tend to work either by monitoring the level of oil (activated if the level drops rapidly) or by a trip switch on the filler/inspection caps. They are usually connected wirelessly  to a chime alert in the house and/or linked direct to a household intruder alarm system. Some can be programmed to (more…)

bank account scam update

With reference to my recent message concerning a male using a mobile phone to contact residents stating he was from the bank, this male attempted to use stolen bank card details fraudulently to purchase a horse trailer over the phone. Fortunately, the card owner made the bank aware of his phone call and the bank were aware of the attempt transaction and cancelled the card. Police enquiries continue.

Please be aware that this man may try to do this again as his recent attempt failed. He could try this anywhere in the country to
obtain similar types of property fraudulently.

Bank officials already have your bank details on their records.

Please be vigilant.

Bank Account Scam

Several residents living in the High Peak & Derbyshire Dales area have received phone calls from a man purporting to be from the bank, stating that there was a problem with their accounts and he would need to cancel their bank cards. He asked for their bank card numbers. An attempt was made take money from an account but the other residents declined and contacted their bank and the police.

These particular calls were made from a mobile phone with same number. Enquiries continue.

Police advise people not to divulge their bank account details to strangers. Your bank will have your details and wouldn’t phone you to ask for this information.
