Service of Remembrance 6th July 2019: 75th Anniversary of D-Day Landings in Normandy

A short service of remembrance was held by members of the Royal British Legion at the War Memorial, Memorial Park, Whaley Bridge at midday on 6th July to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings in Normandy.

A wreath was laid by John Baker on behalf of the Royal British Legion.

Beryl Axel took the service, and John Cooke read from Lawrence Binyon’s poem “For the Fallen”:

“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.”

David Woodward read the roll of honour of the fallen from WW2, and Laurie Walton played the Last Post.

Councillors and members of the public were in attendance.
