Hello, Whaley Bridge! Runners take a 5.8 mile Waltz

More than 100 runners took part in the 5.8 mile fell race, the Whaley Waltz, which runs alongside the Whaley Bridge Rose Queen Festival  As soon as the parade has left the town centre, over 100 runners got ready on the main street.

Their route, with a 900ft ascent, took them to Taxal Edge and Windgather Rocks with its great views over the Cheshire Plain.  Runners, returning through the park, had a chilly finish splashing through the River Goyt at Forge Road.

Results: 

Men. 1 Chris Donnelly, 2 Martin Cliffe, 3 Julian Goodwin.

Ladies. 1 Hayley Ashby, 2 Faye Waterhouse, 3 Sarah Douglas.

Male vets.  Aged 40 upwards  – Dwayne Dixon;   50 – Paul Oakley;  60 – Steve Shaughnessy; 70 – Roger Ashby

Female vets. 40 -Anne Chinoy;  50 – Janine Ridgard;  60 – Jo Baker

Race organiser Mary Jones said: “We are very grateful to our sponsors The Bike Factory, AC Workwear, and Riverside Therapy Centre. All proceeds go to the Thomas Theyer Foundation.”
