During the World Cup, fans have been able to follow 14 United players . representing eight countries. Mr Rhodes said: “Watching the Dutch team overwhelm Spain was a highlight – with goals from Van Persie and, of course, the Dutch manager Louis Van Gaal will be United’s manager in a few weeks.”

Mr Udale kept his links with the fans club while working for over three years in Texas. From across the Atlantic, he organized tickets for members to Old Trafford and away games. Like many fans, he is looking ahead to the new season – “I’d be happy with two trophies!”
The fans’ club has 450 members, about 30 of them women, in the High Peak and Marple areas. Contact Keith Udale on 07810 567 953.
