In accepting the award, Barry paid tribute to the team of volunteers who support him, not just at W3 but in the other events they have supported such as the Fireworks and the care of the Whaley Canal arm..

Later on the Whaley Bridge page on Facebook, Barry made this statement: “I was honoured to receive this recognition this evening and wish to share it with all of the Whaley Water Weekend team many of whom help with the canal volunteer group and the Lantern Parade. Also with those volunteers who put in a lot of effort who are not committee members but share our community spirit-well done to you all. PS the cheque goes to Daniels Light.”

Since Barry’s involvement Whaley Water Weekend has progressed each year to become by far the largest event in the area, drawing visitors from across the High Peak and afar. Cllr Thomas made this statement: “Barry works tirelessly to make this event a success. Events like this require careful planning and considerable work. A measure of Barry’s leadership is the dedicated and hard working team that support him. Thank you!”.

This year’s W3 takes place from 6th to 8th June. Full details can be foundĀ here.
