Grants from Town Council and Sport England
Thanks to a donation of £75 from Whaley Bridge Town Council we will be able to buy some paddles for our new canoe section.
Many people have asked if we do canoeing at the sailing club. Thanks to a grant from Sport England we are starting this year. Sportivate is a scheme to encourage young people aged 12-25 to take up a sport. We are running a canoeing course starting in May to teach 12 young people the skills of Canadian canoeing. The course will be run by qualified instructors from Hollowford Outdoor Centre and Peak Paddlers will be on hand to advise participants about further canoeing opportunities elsewhere and at Toddbrook canoe section. The sailing club hopes to build up the canoe section who will join the sailors on the reservoir and on the club’s cruising trips to other waters.
