Summer highlights 2014 – May to September

After last year’s sunshine, which made Whaley Bridge’s main summer events such a success, organisers are hoping for a rerun of the weather and public support.  The main dates for 2014 are:

FURNESS VALE COGS ANNUAL FIELD DAY – Saturday May 17  – further details to follow. Contact: Susanne Lomas, 01663 744 764 if you wish to book a stall.

WATER WEEKEND – Friday 6, Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 June round the canal basin.  There will be a focus on music on the Friday evening, with the free boat trips, and all the fun of the fair on Saturday and Sunday. Craft stalls a feature.

WELLDRESSINGMonday 23 June. preparations begin in marquee at Canal Basin. The Blessing  at Tom Brad’s Croft, is on Sunday 29 June.  The boards stay on display for a further week.

ROSE QUEEN FESTIVAL – Carnival day is Saturday 28 June, with the procession start at 1pm (brought forward from the previous 2pm). On Sunday 9 March, there will be the selection of Whaley Bridge royalty.  Watch for local information about nominating young people as royalty, available at schools and other outlets.

WHALEY BRIDGE ARTS EXHIBITION,  Saturday 28 June, Uniting Church, 10am-5pm.  Paintings on sale.  Refreshments.

VILLAGE GAMES, Sunday 13 July at the Whaley Bridge Sports Centre. A spin-off from the Rose Queen Festival, launched last year by committee members and other volunteers.

WHALEY BRIDGE GARDEN SHOW, Saturday 6 September in the Bowling Club.  This most colourful event celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2014.
