The secret of Father Jamie’s art ‘find’ will be solved on BBC television’s Antiques Road Show on Sunday 29 December. Fr Jamie from Whaley Hall appeared on the show in the autumn, describing how he bought a painting in an antique shop which turned out to have a ‘Van Dyck’ signature.
The Christmas edition of Radio Times carries a photo of Fr Jamie with Road Show presenter Fiona Bruce and the mystery picture.
An accompanying story says: “Fr Jamie bought a painting for just £400 that could be by Flemish artist Anthony van Dyck.” The magazine reveals that there was no way of knowing the truth without taking ‘half the paint’ off the picture in the quest to find authentication (or otherwise).
At 7pm on BBC 1 on 29 December we will find out the answer. As the Radio Times says, “If it is real it will pay for his church bells to be rehung – and a lot more besides.”
How interesting. Has the painting bee sold and, if so, to what value?
Would be interested to learn about proceeds from sale.
How nice to hear the something from Whaley Bridge has “hit the headlines” !!
