Please find below information on a Derbyshire heritage project that I have volunteered to help with.

My role is to contact local groups in Whaley Bridge, Furness, New Mills and Glossop to find out if they are planning to do anything to mark the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War in 2014, the 75th anniversary of the outbreak of the Second World War, in 2015 or the end of the First World War in 2018.

I am also trying to get some idea of WW1 or WW2 memorabilia, photographs and stories held by local people (not just relating to people who were in the military, but also to our industries, farming, evacuees, churches, local transport, community groups, etc) to paint a picture of life on our home front during both wars.

There is a project website which is NOT yet 100% live, but you can see a bit more information there:-

Would you be able to bring this subject up at your next coffee morning/church meetings to see if your group want to plan something for 2014 or 2015? Please also advise if you would need any help with funding.
Your views will then go into my report and be submitted to Derbyshire County Council who will then be able to look at the whole picture across the county.

If you could let me have your group’s feedback before 20 March that would be brilliant as I have to produce a report just after that date to show what I have discovered.

    With my best wishes
    Gill
