Everyone’s a winner…

Winners:- back row left to right Anne, Dan, Carrie, Christian. Front row Aiden and Dillon.

Members of Whaley Bridge Brass Band and Learner Band took part in their annual Band Slow Melody competition on Sunday 7 October 2012.

With over twenty-one members taking part competition was fierce and the adjudicator, Mr Paul Sanders, had a difficult job on his hands. Standards were high with competitors of varying ages and abilities.

Paul congratulated everyone that took part and apologised that he could only pick one winner from each section. As he said: “everyone that stood up and played a solo were winners in my eyes.”

The winner of the Wilson shield was Aiden Quinn, with the winner of the Cedar Finance shield, Dillon Roberts. Christian Boon lifted the Barry Hinde trophy, with Dan Sargeant taking the Shannon Tolley Trophy. The learner ensemble group of Aiden Quinn and Anne Oldfield took home the Bill & Lynne Wilson cup and Dan Sargeant and Carrie Tolley won the Norman Mackay cup for their duet.

Thanks must go to Mr Bill Wilson from Cedar Finance who has sponsored the band over the last 3 years, and provided the small trophies that the individual winners get to keep.

Whaley Bridge band is always keen to hear from anyone wanting to experience brass playing, for details visit the band website here.
