The Last Post: the 2011 service at the Cenotaph in Memorial Park

Remembrance Sunday falls on 11 November, the actual anniversary of the end of World War I in 1918.  There will be short services at Furness Vale War Memorial 9.15am and also at Bridgemont War Memorial at 9.30am.

Recent campaign medals, including former Yugoslavia and Afghanistan

The Royal British Legion will be assembling in Canal Street, Whaley Bridge at 10am for the parade to the Uniting Church for the remembrance service at 10.45 am, to be taken by Beryl Axcell.  After the service, there will be a march to the Memorial Cross at the Jodrell Arms car park, for the laying of wreaths and the Last Post.

Kettleshulme’s remembrance service will be at 3pm in the village hall, following the wreath laying.

Note: the Whaley Bridge Cenotaph in Memorial Park is not being used this year because the refurbishment is not yet complete.  The Jodrell Arms car park at the station approach will be closed from 5pm on Saturday 10 November until 1.15pm on Sunday, after the wreath laying.  The British Legion has appealed for the public to co-operate so that the car park can be clear for the wreath laying.

Even though there is a small fence around the War Memorial in the Memorial Park, a few of us will still be gathering there on Remembrance Sunday, 11 November, just before 11.00am, to pay our respects and observe 2 minutes silence as per usual.
