Hairdresser Jane Marchington and beautician Megan Riley are organising an ambitious wedding fair in Whaley Bridge to raise money for the new Manchester Royal Children’s Hospital, which provides specialist treatment for patients from a wide area, including the High Peak.
The event is on Sunday 27 May, from 1-4pm in the Whaley Bridge Bowling Club, followed by an evening of fun and more fund-raising in the White Horse pub at Horwich End.
Jane and Megan have selected the hospital as their charity because they know of a little boy, not yet two, who has relied on the hospital all his life and has had ten operations there.
Jane and Megan work at Sammie’s Hair and Beauty, who are hosting the event. Described as a charity wedding/prom fair, it will feature up to 25 stalls. They will be promoting
- bridalwear, including bridesmaids and mother of the bride
- modelling of gowns by Cavendish Bridal of Hayfield
- menswear – the groom and ushers, etc
- make-up and hairdressing demonstrations
- photography
- wedding cakes and catering
- venues for receptions and honeymoon.
Admission is free, but Jane and Megan request that you give a donation for the children’s hospital.
There will be a raffle with the top prize a bridal package. Items for the package are being donated by stallholders. Tickets of £5, with all proceeds going to the children’s hospital, will be on sale from 7 March at Sammie’s on Old Road, Whaley Bridge and Cavendish Bridal in Hayfield.
The evening part of the big day at the White Horse starts at 7.30pm. There will be bands, a great party atmosphere and another big raffle. Tickets – £3 for one, a fiver for two – will be on sale at Sammie’s from 7 March.
There are two fund-raising events leading up to the wedding fair:
Tuesday 13 March, quiz night at the Board Inn, 7.45pm, £1 per person to enter.
Thursday 29 March, charity zumba hour, Mechanics’ Institute, 6.45pm. Caribbean theme. £4 entry.
