Two well-known figures in Whaley Bridge have each recently received awards

Gillian Mawson, the Whaley Bridge researcher who is wrtitng a book about  the Guernsey evacuees who came to Stockport and the High Peak, has been recognised in  the Manchester Histories Festival Community Awards. The Meet the Guernsey Evacuees one day event at Stockport Art Gallery and War Memorial last October was highly commended, with a £250 cheque to go towards the next event. Gillian and her team of volunteers will be taking part in the Bury World War II Weekend at East Lancashire Railway on Sunday 3 June.

Andrew, right, receives national award

Andrew Pratt, owner of AK Products (more familiarly known as Peartree Print in Whaley Bridge) has also received an award.  At their national Spotlight conference, the Integra Office Solutions group named Andrew as Member of the Year.  Integra’s managing director praised AK Products for their  “proactive approach to growing their business, particularly embracing e-commerce” and for service to customers.   Andrew said:  “We are always trying to exceed customers’ expectations.”
