Police joined forces with partnership agencies to target unsafe driving through Dove Holes.

The Chapel and Chinley Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team (SNT), who cover the Dove Holes area, worked alongside the Casualty Reduction and Enforcement Support Team (CREST) and Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) on Thursday, March 31.

They stopped more than 70 motorists and issued a mixture of warnings and penalties to:

• 44 drivers for not wearing a seatbelt
• 12 people for driving while using a mobile phone
• Seven people for tyre related offences
• Five drivers for the manner in which they were driving (e.g. excessive speed, noisy exhausts etc.)

A further five drivers were pulled up because the tinting on their windows was below the legal safety levels for visibility, and the tints were removed.

VOSA also issued nine immediate and two delayed vehicle prohibition notices for defects which affected the vehicles safety and roadworthiness.

PC Ian de Pee of the Chapel and Chinley SNT said: “Unfortunately there are still some drivers who flout the law and put their own and other people’s safety at risk by using their mobile phone at the wheel and by not wearing their seatbelt.

“We want to make sure that our roads are safe for everyone, and we will continue to target those drivers who flout the law and put others at risk. I hope that the operation will act as a reminder to motorists about the importance of safe and considerate driving.”
