Liberation Day comes to the Derbyshire Dales

A free safety awareness event for the over 50s in the High Peak and Derbyshire Dales is coming to Bakewell.

This year’s ‘Liberation Day’ event will be taking place on Friday, June 17 at Derbyshire Dales District Council’s Agricultural Business Centre.

Liberation Day is organised every year by Derbyshire Constabulary, Derbyshire Dales District Council, High Peak Borough Council, Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, Age Concern, local primary care trusts and Neighbourhood Watch Associations.

The event is set up to offer older residents a chance to access advice and support on a wide range of issues including personal and home safety, healthy living, housing and benefits.

Community Safety Inspector Tony Dales said: “This is the seventh year we have worked alongside our partners to organise Liberation Day and it is the first time it has been held in the Dales.

“I am sure it will be another successful event and I would like to thank all our partners for their continued commitment in helping us to bring it all together.”

The over 50s event, which is usually held at the Pavilion Gardens in Buxton, will feature free entertainment, lunch and refreshments and free travel will also be provided for those residents who need it.
