Whaley Water Weekend 2011

WHALEY WATER WEEKEND ASSOCIATION/12-13 JUNE 2010

After 2010 triumph, W3 thinks big for 2011

The 2011 Whaley Water Weekend (W3) will be on  Saturday 11 June and Sunday 12 June.  It is the 12th W3, first launched in Millennium Year.

Meanwhile, the annual general meeting will be held in the meeting room of  the Mechanics’ Institute at 7.30pm on Tuesday 22 February.  Anyone wishing to help W3, in the organising or stewarding on the day,  is warmly invited to the meeting.

Secretary Barry Rudd said:  “We are working hard to make the 2011 Water Weekend include every part of the community.”

Two big favourites are already booked for 2011:

  • The boats which provide trips on the canal – ‘the very heart of W3’
  • Punch and Judy, making a return visit with its unique show that never fails to  ‘wow’ the youngest visitors (not to mention their mums and dads!)

The newest favourite, meerkats from the petting zoo which appeared last year, are also making a return visit.  Everybody enjoyed these cute little stand-up African animals, including the MP and the mayor.  By unanimous popular demand, they will be back for 2011.

Whaley Bridge Band, improving almost weekly under musical director  Marcus Jones, will be back.  No-one will forget their cheery Singin’ in the Rain last year, as very late rain fell on the canal area.

Other attractions making return visits include:

  • The fairground
  • Dance groups
  • Folk music.

Food is going to play a big part in the 2011 W3.  Barry Rudd said:  “We’ll have ‘local food for a local event’  – locally sourced outdoor food, cooked on the spot, ready to satisfy those summer weekend appetites.”

  • Can you help? Anyone wishing to be a steward, or volunteer in other roles before and during the weekend will be welcomed by the committee.  Contact Barry Rudd on 01663 733003 or barry@mobelec.co.uk
