Several elderly residents have received calls from person/s purporting to be from BT. They stated that from their records it appeared that they had overpaid their bills and were due a refund. The caller asked for a debit card number, etc, in order to process the refund.
The number they called from was withheld and BT have confirmed that they would not ask for this information.
If you receive any similar calls, do not give out your personal information. Ask the caller for their name, company and telephone number. Dial 1471 to try to obtain their telephone number. Check with your own service provider.
These residents were not happy in passing the number and contacted police to make us aware.
