Crime Prevention Message

We would like to make you aware of some similar incidents that have been reported to Chesterfield and Derby police, so that we can try to prevent any such incidents taking place in this area.

The incidents involve a man who has attempted to steal necklaces from women.

The most recent incident happened in Chesterfield this week when a 77-year-old woman, who was in a mobility scooter, was approached by a man who offered her jewellery.

He lent over in front of her and put a necklace around her neck and said she could have it. He then showed her two rings and offered to sell them to her.

As he was talking to her she realised that her own necklace was missing and demanded it back. She threatened to call the police so he put it back around her neck and walked towards Tesco.

She described the man as an Asian with a Pakistani accent. He was of a slim build, with short dark hair, approximately 5ft 8″ tall, clean shaven, aged ! in his mid 20s. He was wearing dark clothing.

It appears this man was trying to steal the woman’s expensive chain from her neck by trickery.

Police are appealing to anyone who saw this man in the Chesterfield town centre on Tuesday 18th January or has seen him since to contact us with information on 0345 123 33 33.
