Cold Callers

This is a reminder to members of community messaging not to give out personal or banking details to unknown callers, following reports of scams where cold callers have contacted householders mainly by e-mail this time, claiming to offer tax rebates, bank refunds, etc. The e-mail goes on to ask you for your bank details and other confidential information.

The latest e-mails received state they are from the HM Revenue & Customs. If you receive such an e-mail, please forward onto phising@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk so that they can be investigated further or telephone 0115 974 0214.

Please be aware that there are many scams in circulation, using techniques to obtain your personal details. If you are unsure about any unsolicited contact from an organisation whether it is by phone or e-mail, please phone the organisation using a number from the phone book to confirm it
