Fancy a long Summer in Tymbark?

Whaley bridge people have been offered this open invitation:   Do you fancy a long weekend next July in Tymbark , our twin town in Poland ?  The Days of Tymbark is an annual event, taking place in and around the beautiful town of Tymbark, known for its production of fruit juices. There are competitions, presentations, displays and a huge outdoor concert in which a celebrity group performs.

• Flashback to summer: Denis Gregory, left, and Polish teacher lead the party of Polish children from their base Whaley Hall towards Taxal and Fernilee C of E primary school

2011 will be the 20th anniversary of the Days of Tymbark and  the 75th anniversary of Tymbark’s  famous juice factory.  To add to the special features of 2011, Fakro, one of the leading companies in the region, celebrates 25 years in business.

Organisers of the Days of Tymbark  hope that many people will share in the celebrations.  Provisional date is the weekend of 30 and 31 July, at the height of Poland’s warm summer. Confirmation is expected in late 2010, after local elections in Poland.

A group is being  invited from Whaley Bridge to attend the celebrations in Tymbark.  Several people have already visited the twin town, thoroughly enjoying the experience.

Whaley Bridge’s Twinning Committee and teacher  Denise Gregory, who organised a successful visit by Polish children in early summer 2010, will liase with the Tymbark organisers to arrange accommodation in Tymbark.  People interested in  going to Tymbark  would just need to organise their flight.

Denise said: “In our experience, the easiest flight to use is from Liverpool to Kraków, with Easyjet.  It’s usually around £120 return, including 20kg luggage. It’s possible that the people of Tymbark will arrange transport for a day in Kraków,  too,  while the group is there.

“Easyjet operates flights daily, so we are suggesting flying on Thursday 28July, returning Tuesday 2 August. Naturally, the schedules are not yet published for these dates, but we can watch out for them.”
